Laurie L. Rueber - Director, Business Consulting
Laurie L. Rueber CPA is a results-driven finance and accounting professional who focuses on performance improvement, corporate restructurings, and asset dispositions. Her sector expertise includes professional services, medical technology, helath care, food & beverage, distribution, and manufacturing. Her strengths include in-depth analysis into pricing disparities, cost-reduction, and asset value optimization. Ms. Rueber's clients range from $10 million to $5 billion in sales.
Ms. Rueber works in the firm's business improvement practice. Prior to joining MainStream Ms. Rueber worked as an assurance manager at McGladrey Pullen, LLP where she was responsible for identifying and analyzing operational and financial statement risks, developing a risk management program, and served as an audit manager. She also assisted in the preparation and review of client financial statements to determine compliance with SEC regulations and GAAP.
In addition, she was responsible for engagement teams that ranged from two to eight individuals for local and international companies mainly in the cable and telephone services, magazine distribution, food & beverage, manufacturing, and technology industries for both privately-held and publicly traded companies. As a part of her role at McGladrey Pullen, she not only managed projects but also advised clients on best practices and areas to gain efficiencies within the organization. Ms. Rueber also researched technical accounting guidance and consulted clients on the proper accounting treatment for various topics, including derivatives, revenue recognition for software and technology companies, internal software development, grant accounting, and accounting for exit costs. She also identified other services the organization could provide in IT software/hardware, telephany, executive recruiting and tax services.
Ms. Rueber began her career at Ernst & Young, LLP, in Minneapolis, where she had extensive experience in the manufacturing, distribution, and service industries. She also developed an expertise in SEC filings.
At Ernst & Young Ms. Rueber was responsible for engagement teams that range from two to 12 individuals for national and international companies specializing in the medical technology, distribution, and telecommunications technology industries. She was involved with client transactions including business purchases and dispositions. Ms. Rueber assisted publicly-traded companies to identify areas to cut down on Sarbanes Oxley costs to the organization by streamlining processes and looking for increasing efficiencies in processes. Between the first year and following years of Sarbanes testing, time was cut in by more than half for both the Company and the firm and there was no impact on the Company's earnings per share. Similar to McGladrey, she assisted on researching technical accounting guidance and consulted. She also worked in the business risk advisory service group, assisting transportation logistics and food companies to perform specific risk assessment and evaluation procedures to provide management with feedback on ways to improve the organization and cut down on costs.
Ms. Rueber received her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance from the University of Northern Iowa and is a Certified Public Accountant. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association, and the Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors. She serves on various community charitable and civic organizations boards as well as in a volunteer capacity.
