Project: Gas Turbine Engine Maintenance, Repair, & Overhaul (MRO) Operations Improvement

Expertise: Operational Improvement & Continuous Process Improvement

Assignment:

The MRO of Gas Turbine Engines conducted by the 309 CMXG of the OO-ALC was taking too long and placing stress on the supply chain. MainStream GS was engaged to transform the 309 CMXG's gas turbine engine MRO operations from Batch and Queue to Cellular Flow.

Actions:

MainStream GS conducted Steering Team training with the 309 CMXG's senior leadership and assembled a cross-functional team of personnel to support the transformation process. We trained leadership, functional support personnel, and the workforce in Lean principles and facilitated the implementation team in a DMAIC process of defining the problem, measuring the current state, analyzing the opportunities for improved flow and waste elimination, implementing the new MRO process, and creating Standard Work to control the new process. Current and Future State Value Stream Maps were created to identify the project opportunities and desired Future State.

Results:

Results included reducing the gas turbine engine MRO:
