Assignment:
MainStream GS was engaged to provide Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belts (LSS MBBs) to improve supply chain response time for critical mission assets in Kuwait and Afghanistan by developing and implementing a standardized process to utilize Operational Needs Statements (ONS). ONS was designed to provide a platform for field Commanders to request mission critical assists from their supply chain. The challenge they were facing was inconsistent and non-standard utilization of the system in theater.
Actions:
MainStream GS' LSS MBBs worked with leadership to develop a Value Stream Map to better understand the Current State and desired Future State of ONS utilization. End-to-end documentation was developed included a Users Guide to drive Standard Work in the utilization of ONS in the Theater.
Results:
This project received senior level support and an updated ONS User Guide was published which included senior leader guidance on more effective and efficient utilization of the system to drive towards standard work and standard utilization. The implementation of the standardized process has increased the delivery of vital supplies to field Commanders. Improvements to the supply chain process in terms of the correct the necessary assets and supplies and timeliness have been realized by eliminating non-standard utilization.
