Engagement Result
Major Command: Air Mobility Command (AMC) U.S. Air Force
Project: Establishment of a Pilot Program for Regional Enterprise T56 Engine Repair
Assignment:
AMC had over 50 shops for T56 engine MRO each producing varying levels of quality and lead times. AMC leadership desired a shift from segregated shops to regional repair centers in order to provide consistent MRO of T56 engines. MainStream GS was engaged by AMC at the Command level engaged to plan and implement a pilot program for Regional Enterprise Engine Repair.
Actions:
MainStream GS led a cross-functional team in developing a Current State Value Stream Map (VSM) and identifying opportunities for waste elimination, improved flow, and quality resolution. We facilitated the creation of a Future State VSM, and developed transformation and implementation plans. We facilitated the AMC team in executing the projects and events required to implement the Future State VSM. This resulted in the development of new standardized work that was to become the standard for the Regional Enterprise Engine Repair Centers.
Results:
Resulting included reducing:
- T56 Engine MRO lead time by 40%
- Workspace by 24%
- Travel by 25%
- Kit inventory by 67%
- Engine inventory by 17%
*As a direct result of this project, per engine material savings of $637 were realized. In addition, the project resulted in the halt of a planned building construction project resulting in cost avoidance of $4.2 million.
