MainStream GS Sponsors Lean Six Sigma for Defense
Event to focus on best practices for implementing Lean Six Sigma for process improvement across the Department of Defense
Bethesda, Md., December 8, 2008 – MainStream GS, a leading management consulting firm focused on driving sustainable strategy alignment and deployment in the public sector, today announced its sponsorship of IDGA's Lean Six Sigma for Defense event being held in Arlington, VA on December 8-10. The event will focus on promoting new Continuous Process Improvement programs and approaches for maximizing resources, lowering costs, and increasing efficiency for organizations across the Department of Defense (DoD). The sponsorship demonstrates the company's continued commitment to driving business transformation for DoD customers through a unique methodology that blends Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) techniques like Lean and Six Sigma with cultural change approaches and program management expertise.
"The IDGA's Lean Six Sigma for Defense event is an extremely important opportunity for DoD organizations to share the latest process improvement best practices, and we are proud to be a sponsor," said Thomas Cluley, Chief Operating Partner with Mainstream GS. "Our consultants average over 20 years of Lean Six Sigma industry experience, and we are excited to share our expertise and DoD customer success stories with conference attendees."
Thomas Cluley of Mainstream GS will be a featured speaker at the event, conducting an interactive session on strategy alignment and deployment on the morning of December 8, and presenting a case study on a recent CPI strategy deployment for the U.S. Air Force on the morning of December 10. The first workshop will focus on the strategy implementation that needs to accompany any Lean or Six Sigma initiative, ensuring that CPI initiatives are aligned with the goals and vision of a DoD organization's leadership. Attendees will learn essential methodologies for rolling out the new strategy, monitoring its progress, overcoming barriers to execution, and sustaining it over time. The second presentation will focus on how the Air Force is achieving sustainable process improvement. From this real world case study, attendees will learn why culture change is more important than technical Lean and Six Sigma tools to achieving lasting gains, and how DoD leaders can implement a holistic approach to CPI.
Mainstream GS is the public sector practice of Mainstream Holdings, a full-service advisory firm with expertise in continuous process improvement (CPI), turnaround management and management consulting. Mainstream GS has had a long and successful relationship with DoD and other public sector organizations, consolidating and streamlining operations to combat rising costs, shrinking budgets, and a retiring workforce. Mainstream GS was recently awarded a Mission Oriented Business Integrated Services (MOBIS) Schedule 874 contract by the General Services Administration (GSA), allowing government customers access to the MainStream GS team of experienced consultants over the next five years. One of the company's recent successes was the realigning the Air Force's east coast ports under the AFSO 21 contract. By eliminating redundant travel and developing shorter flight distances, MainStream was able to help the Air Force save over $40 million dollars in annual fuel costs.
