Health IT Systems Assessment and Technology Roadmap

Assignment: 

MainStream GS (MSGS) was awarded a competitive RFP project by the leading kidney care and research center in the New York City Region to provide an independent assessment and technology roadmap for enterprise wide Health IT Systems. The technology assessment and roadmap was for IT Systems mission critical to the organization spanning across clinical and administrative workflows.

Actions: 

MainStream GS (MSGS) assembled and deployed a cross-functional team of software and database experts together with business analysts to conduct the technical assessment. The MSGS consultants conducted software, database and systems analysis systems analysis of the current state database management system, data records management, reporting and computing infrastructure of the Health IT Systems, and computer interfaces to determine and document the capabilities today and over the next five years of the Health IT system. The MSGS team also analyzed the current state capabilities of the IT Systems developer and technical support staff. The MSGS team provided a written report and technical out-brief session for client leadership on the findings and recommendations for a technology road map way ahead.

MSGS work included numerous interviews of staff spanning across IT Systems, Business and Administrative functions, Clinical Functions, IT Staff, and Executive Leadership. Systems and database analysis was conducted relative to enterprise requirements across clinical and administrative workflows and reporting for the current state and a going forward five year outlook assuming significant growth in patients, facilities, staff and government compliance reporting requirements.

Results:​

The Health IT Systems Assessment and Technology Roadmap was completed and the following outcomes were achieved for the client:

  • A clear and documented understanding of their current Health IT Systems and technical support resources capabilities to meet today’s workload requirements and the increased workload requirements over the next five years

  • A clear understanding of compliance requirements today and going forward for Health IT Systems relative to Meaningful Use as required under the Affordable Care Act

  • A clear and documented technology roadmap looking ahead over the next five years to ensure that Health IT Systems provide the best platform for improved clinical and administrative workflows that align with the clients high standard for patient care

  • The client was able to leverage the learning from this engagement to make an informed decision about migrating to a new and more capable Health IT System and is beginning the process of migration while maintaining the highest standards for patient care
